The daily program is a balanced combination of free play and guided activities. Opportunities exist for self-expression through play, art, language, science activities, and music. Field trips and special visitors are part of the broadening program for four-year-olds. We offer exposure to numbers, letters, shapes, and colors through toys, games, and finger plays, yet we give each child the freedom to absorb information at his or her own rate. Most importantly, we strive to develop the social and self-help skills needed for a successful kindergarten experience.
Our 4 year old classes consist of 2 teachers and a maximum of 12 children per class. 3 year old classes consist of 2 teachers and 1 teacher's aide with a maximum of 12 children. The Pre-K class consists of 2 teachers and a maximum of 13 children. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to sign up to help in the classroom and on field trips.
Creative Explorers is an optional 4th day for our 4s program. It is an enrichment program that is independent from the regular 4s curriculum. The Creative Explorers' curriculum uses a transdisciplinary approach to inquiry and learning that fosters critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and innovation. This exciting program offers children the opportunity for hands-on exploration and discovery through participation in a wide variety of learning experiences using the CT ELDS domains: Social and Emotional Development; Physical Health & Development; Language and Literacy; Creative Arts; Mathematics, Science; Cognition and Social Studies as access points for guiding student learning. Creative Explorers will also have many opportunities to investigate nature while enjoying hikes on the trails in Belden Forest located right behind our school.
Hopmeadow Nursery School is a tree nut and peanut-free school. Parents are asked to send nut-free snacks and lunches to school with their children (please read ingredients on packaged foods carefully). Please notify the director and your child’s teacher if your child has food allergies.
